Questions

  • Where can I get the download for the Redundancy Module Configuration Tool (RMCT)?
  • Why can I not see the Module Configuration option for the ControlLogix Redundancy module in RSLinx Classic when I right click on it?
  • Where can I find specific RMCT version?

Answer

How to Obtain the Redundancy Module Configuration Tool (RMCT):

  1. The Redundancy Module Configuration Tool (RMCT) can be downloaded from the Product Compatibility and Download Center (PCDC) under the Find Downloads .
  2. Search for FactoryTalk Linx RMCT , as this is available as a standalone download. It is available as a Product Add-On in bundle versions 34 and greater.
  3. Search by processor catalog number, such as 1756-L8x Enhanced Redundancy Bundle or 1756-L73 and then choose the Redundant option, such as 1756-L73 Redundant .
  4. Depending on the version of the bundle, the RMCT may be included with the Controller firmware bundle, 1756-RM(2) Redundancy module firmware, or it may be available as a separate download. See examples:

    Common Install Problems

    • Error 1309. Error reading from file \\……...\SRMConfig.dll
      • The install path name is too long.
        • Install the RMCT from the local machine.
        • Do not install over a networked driver.
    • The Setup Dialog may not be visible.
      • The Setup Dialog is hidden behind the Windows Explorer window.
        • Minimize (or move) the Windows Explorer window.

    Important Notes:

    • When 7.2.7.0 or higher version of the tool is installed, the previous versions are automatically uninstalled.
      • 7.2.7.0 or higher versions of the tool have revision back to 3.6.4.0 installed with it.
    • Higher revisions of the tool support higher revisions of firmware and newer 1756-RM2; refer to the following table:

    • Version 7.2.7.0 of the Redundancy Module Configuration Tool is compatible with the following redundant firmware:
      • revision 19
      • revision 16
      • revision 15
      • revision 13*
    • Version 6.2.10.0 of the Redundancy Module Configuration Tool is compatible with the following redundant firmware:**
      • revision 16
      • revision 15
      • revision 13*
    • Version 5.2.3.0 of the Redundancy Module Configuration Tool is compatible with the following redundant firmware:**
      • revision 16
      • revision 15
      • revision 13*
    • Version 2.5.0 of the Redundancy Module Configuration Tool is compatible with the following redundancy firmware:**
      • revision 11*
      • revision 8

*For users supporting both v11.x and v13.x Redundancy Systems:

If you connect your computer to a ControlLogix Redundancy System revision 11.x or earlier, do not use the 6.2.10, 5.2.3, 3.6.4 or 2.6.4 version of the SRM Configuration tool to monitor an SRM module older than revision 3.37. Using one of these versions of the tool with the older SRMs could cause the module to fault.

    **For Older Systems:

    • Older RSLinx Classic software will pre-install some version of the RMCT.
    • Depending upon which version of Redundant Firmware being used, a different tool may be required.
    1. The first step is to determine what version RMCT is currently installed.
      • If the Module Configuration option is missing when right clicking the redundancy module in RSLinx Classic check your computer's Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features to see if the Redundancy Module Config Tool is installed and its version.
    2. For a missing EDS file, right click on the module and select Upload EDS file from Device .
      • If the upload option is missing, then the RSLinx Classic software is an older version.
      • The user can obtain EDS files from the website or install a newer version of RSLinx Classic software.
    3. If RSLinx Classic v2.52, v2.53 or 2.54 is installed, the pre-installed version of the SRM Configuration Tool only works with v16 redundant firmware.
      • The Windows Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs list can be used to uninstall an existing version.
    4. Verify the modules firmware has been flashed to the desired version.
      • Default firmware will not allow an EDS file upload or module configuration
